Retro Gift World of Gorham Porcelain Owl Music Box • “Owls on Branch” Japan • Plays Love Story (c. 1970s-1980s)

Bring sweet woodland charm into your home with this Retro Gift World of Gorham Porcelain Owl Music Box, crafted in Japan and playing the classic melody “Love Story.” This beautifully modeled duet of owls perches on a sculpted woodland base adorned with delicate flowers (one seems to be chipped) and soft moss-green foliage. Each owl features lifelike feather texturing, expressive glass-like eyes, and warm golden-brown tones that make the piece feel alive. The music box winds smoothly from the back, and the tune plays clearly with that nostalgic, old-school charm only Japanese-made musical mechanisms deliver. A lovely decorative accent for collectors of owls, nature scenes, or Japan-made music boxes — and a perfect fit for your cozy woodland cottage décor.
Gift World of Gorham imported a large variety of high-quality porcelain figurines and music boxes from Japan throughout the 1970s and 1980s, during a period when Japanese ceramic craftsmanship was especially admired for its precision, hand-finishing, and expressive detail. Music boxes themed around woodland animals were among their most popular lines, often paired with sentimental tunes like “Love Story,” which debuted in 1970 and became one of the most recognizable romance melodies of the era. Pieces like this were commonly gifted for anniversaries, housewarmings, and holidays, and today they remain beloved for their craftsmanship and nostalgic charm.
