This charming pair of hand-painted owl salt & pepper shakers was made in Mexico in a Tonala-inspired folk art style. Each shaker features expressive wide-set eyes, a rounded form, and classic floral brushwork in cobalt blue, warm chestnut brown, and soft grey glaze. Both owls retain their original cork stoppers, and the glaze shows naturally aged crazing—a beautiful detail collectors love.

While not traditional Tonalá barro bruñido, this set draws from the same folk-art heritage, blending whimsy with colorful character. Perfect for retro kitchens, cozy cabin tables, fall vignettes, and Owl Wood Cabin displays.
Approx. 2” H × 2” W × 1.5” D • Glazed Ceramic • Hand-Painted Folk Art

During the 1970s–1980s, many Mexican artisan workshops produced hand-painted ceramic salt & pepper sets inspired by Tonalá designs but executed in glossy glazed styles for the tourist export market.
These owls reflect that era—bright, cheerful, functional pieces that brought Mexican folk art into everyday homes across the U.S. and beyond.

Their cork bases, rounded molds, and expressive faces are trademarks of this charming style.
