A beautiful addition to pastel collections, cottage tablescapes, or blush-toned kitchen décor.
Lu-Ray Pastels was introduced in the late 1930s by Taylor, Smith & Taylor (Chester, West Virginia) as one of America’s first mass-market pastel dinnerware lines.
During the Great Depression and into WWII, bright colors were rare luxuries. Lu-Ray’s soft pink, blue, yellow, green, and ivory pieces brought affordable color and optimism into American homes. The line became especially popular with young brides and middle-class families seeking modern style without European pricing.
Fun facts:
• Lu-Ray was marketed as “modern” tableware
• The rounded silhouette reflects late Art Deco influence
• Pink was one of the most beloved and hardest-to-find replacement colors
• Many collectors still build full pastel sets today
Lu-Ray Pastels remains one of the most recognizable American ceramic lines of the 1940s.
