This lovely pair of unmarked vintage brown transferware plates features a rich scroll and floral medallion design reminiscent of the Royal China “Wellesley” pattern. The deep brown pattern contrasts beautifully against a warm cream glaze, creating an inviting, heritage-style look. Each plate shows charming age-appropriate crazing and a slightly varied patina, adding character and authenticity to these mid-century pieces.

History & Attribution

While these plates are unmarked, the design, glaze tone, and mold style closely resemble the Royal China Co. “Wellesley” transferware pattern, produced in Sebring, Ohio, during the 1950s–60s. Royal China was well-known for its durable ironstone and intricate transfer designs, many of which were sold through grocery or department-store promotions. Unstamped pieces like this were common in promotional sets or distributed through retailers without factory marks.
